A client of ours since 2021, our relationship with The Institute of Conservation (Icon) continues to evolve. Our services for them include magazine production (design, full-service editorial, print management and advertising sales) as well as event design, brochure production, branding and other marketing services.
When we first began working with Icon, their magazine needed a dramatic reimagining. Together we created an editorial blueprint that brought the organisational ideas to life while also catering for the many different groups that form their membership. While many of these groups share the same characteristics, they do often have different and competing requirements.
To ensure everyone is engaged, we follow a relatively prescriptive route that establishes proportional editorial based on group size and tracks this against a year-long editorial calendar, while still leaving room for creativity.
Design-wise, we were given the task of connecting with a broader, less-academic audience and introducing more arresting imagery that would elevate the magazine to something closer to say, National Geographic. To that end, we’ve had Trump blimps, WW2 guns, stunning tapestry and Bhutanese countryside on the front cover.
The client was “delighted to work with Cabbells to develop a new magazine”.
